Your Mix Fix: Lucas Posada

The word mixtape has plenty of different interpretations. It used to be that mixtapes were actually DJ sets recorded on cassette tapes, but with the coming of the digital music age, the name remained the same, but the definition expanded. Nowadays, people call mixtapes many different things, some of which are not necessarily mixed and most of which were never taped. Here we try to cover them all. In this column, Juan Data gives you a worthy one every week.

DJ: Lucas Posada
MIXTAPE: Southern Hemisphere Winter Warmer Set

We tend to forget about it here in the north, but while we’re enjoying the summer, in the other half of the planet, known as the Southern Hemisphere, it’s freaking cold.

Lucas Posada, a Colombian DJ/Producer residing in Melbourne, Australia, knows that very well and put together this mix of sounds from below the equator with the intention of warming up things in that southern winter.

Full disclosure, the mix was done “exclusively” for our friends of Cassette Blog, but it was so good I decided to steal it and post it here too. Mad props for the Cassette crew for always keeping us up to date with the freshest sounds in Latin electronic music.

Anyway, the mix is pretty long (over an hour) and covers a lot of territory, going from Australia, to South America to Africa and back, with mash-ups and blends that include vocals, loops and breaks that actually originated in the north, but it’s all good. Also, Lucas also goes by the aliases of Jack Posada and Burundanga and produces some remarkable remixes too.
