22 year-old Cuban prodigy Daymé Arocena just put out a brand new music video to celebrate the release of her debut album, Nueva Era, which came out last month via Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings imprint. The video in question is for her poppiest song so far, titled “Don’t Unplug My Body.”
Directed by Joshua Bullock, the video is simple yet stunning. It features Arocena singing and dancing in front of a white backdrop, while long pieces of primary colored fabric flutter around her. There’s also footage of colored ink being manipulated into all kinds of shapes. Her gorgeous skin pops out in contrast to the whiteness of the set and her clothes, which references her Yoruba background. And of course, there’s Arocena’s lovely and carefree performance, which always brings us joy and gives us life.
