Monterrey’s resident bass king Ezekiel is creating his own moment this 2015, bringing Remezcla readers an exclusive mixtape on the eve of his appearance at the genre-bending Festival Ceremonia on May 9th, now just days away.
Ezekiel has been steadily releasing club fire over the past few years via Moveltraxx, Sicario Music, and Death Cult, as well as a top-notch remix of ballroom club innovators MikeQ and Divoli Swerve, and a memorable, almost occult take on Álvaro Díaz’s “Superxclusivo.” The producer is pushing his obsession with “past, future, death, life, and beyond” ever further into the open, leading in with some familiar beats from Cartel de Santana, Sango & GoldLink’s flip of Timbaland’s “Indian Flute,” and a return to “Comprendes Mendes.”
But this mixtape is focused on the dance floor, and Ezekiel wastes no time in fleshing out his bass-heavy vision via hip-hop, reggaeton, and uptempo club breaks, letting us in on some more sneak peeks of his Twilight of the Dogs EP that’s out June 10th. As previously covered on Remezcla, “Cheap Champagne” takes the vocal prowess of rapper Matty Rico (who’s included on the massive list of artists from Toy Selectah and Camilo Lara’s Compass project) to slightly schizophrenic levels, and we also revisit his cannabis-loving single with Vancouver rapper KAi Sky Walker, “Mota.”
