NYC via LA DJ Izla just dropped a new mixtape exclusively for Remezcla, titled High Femme Fantasy. Izla has been a staple of NYC’s queer underground club scene: four years ago, she founded the lit AF party Azucar!, which slowly became one of the best places in the city for Latin independent artists to showcase their music. The party has hosted a ton of guest performers and DJs, including Malportado Kids, Maluca, False Witness, Princess Nokia, Zuzuka Poderosa, and countless others. Most recently, Izla was Remezcla’s special guest–along with Toy Selectah–for our monthly night at Webster Hall, PERREO.
Izla has crafted her latest work around the sounds of the global south, with each track fluctuating around the 100 BPM range. Her selection has us surveying the many incarnations of reggaeton and the dembow riddim (think moombahton, bhangraton, etc.), while also featuring tracks from many of Azucar’s previous guests. We recommend using this mix as your soundtrack as you head to the beach this weekend. Remezcla will be hosting PERREO en la Playa at Jacob Riis Beach Bazaar, where we’ll be bringing Latin urban sounds on both Saturday and Sunday.
