Arca Caps Off a Landmark Year With Moody “Urchin”

It’s finally that time of year: artists are racing to make sure they made their mark on 2015. Part of that effort involves dropping free tracks like it’s Christmas morning (or maybe Día de los Reyes?). We’re just ecstatic Arca thought we’ve been good this year, since he just shared a new SoundCloud loosie. Throughout the year, Alejandro Ghersi proved to be one of the top producers in today’s global electronic scene, thanks to the release of Björk’s Vulnicura, his collaboration with Dean Blunt on UK2UK mixtape, and his own sophomore album Mutant.

His latest effort, “Urchin,” is signature Arca, with thick bass tones, airy and eerie synth pads, clattery and unpredictable beats, and beautiful melodic lines. It’s not as unpredictable as plenty of his past works, but overall, it’s moody and nostalgic – just in time for us to reflect on the passing of the year. Give yourself a little free Arca. You deserve it.
