Ela Minus’ “Kiddo” Is a Slice of Sparkling Pop Paradise

Sometimes a song can be enchanting and breathtaking in its minimalism, while simultaneously inciting a riot of smiles. Few can pull this off, which is why Ela Minus‘ music leaves a great impression.

Gabriela Jimeno has played with many bands over the years. Hailing from Colombia, she has resided in Spain and now lives in New York, where she plays drums with the dream pop band Balancer. She’s also an accomplished pianist and has played since she was 11 years old. Ela Minus is her new solo venture.

Ahead of her upcoming First Words EP, she has shared “Kiddo.” Instrumentally, the track approaches Scandinavian avant pop levels of mastery, playing with a dancey beat and twinkling, minimalist electronics over which Jimeno’s naturally high voice playfully reaches for the stars. It’s quite a joy to hear her sing, and you can’t help but lose yourself.

First Words was produced by Andrés Nusser of Chilean dream pop group Astro, as well as Pol Infante. She’s also set to perform at the 2016 edition of Festival NRMAL in Mexico City. Frankly, we can’t wait to hear what Gabriela will have in store for us in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy “Kiddo,” which features visuals by artist Santiago Messier.
