The wait for the release of the MIS‘ Camilo Lara and Toy Selectah collaboration, Compass, has been excruciating. Over eight months ago they announced the album, which they recorded in music studios all around the world, and the list of over 90 guest collaborators, and our mouths started watering big time. The lucky ones who have caught them live on one of their many tour dates know what it’s about, but for the rest of us, we just had to play singles “La Llama” and “Te andan buscando” over and over again while we wait. Well, Camilo, Toy, and Mad Decent are throwing you another bone. Their latest single “I’m a Soldier,” featuring Angela Hunte and Chedda dropped this morning, a party banger heavily influenced by cumbia and its sabrosura. The steady four-on-the-floor kick drum and triads bass line creep into your body and spread like an infection, while the trumpet fills add an undoubtedly Mexican element. On top, we have the two guest MCs spitting rhymes with a strong Caribbean flow, with Hunte singing the catchy chorus that will get stuck with you for sure.
