Fuego Slows It Down With Trap-R&B Serenade “Por Ti”

In 2016, Fuego claimed the crown of the trap en español empire as his own, thanks to his celebrated Fireboy Forever II project and the breakout remix of “35 Pa Las 12,” featuring Colombian reggaeton kingpin J Balvin. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting the Dominican rapper’s comeback. Back in March, he dropped “4,5,6,” a high-octane trap countdown that reminded us he still does it better than everybody else.

Now Miguel Duran is returning with “Por Ti,” a bleeding-heart hip-hop balada. The track is a study of the blurring lines between R&B and trap, which so many Latino rappers are exploring these days. In slowing it down, Fuego shows he’s capable of more than cookie-cutter turn-up anthems, diversifying his oeuvre without compromising his own style.

“Por Ti” comes with a moody video, which finds the rapper serenading his paramour on the basketball court. You can catch “Por Ti” on Fuego’s upcoming Fireboy Forever III, set to drop later this year.
