Sometime in the near future (or at least before April), Jesse Baez will be dropping a mixtape with some of his first solo material, but that doesn’t mean he’s a total newcomer. The Guatemalan singer-emcee has been busy with his band Easy Easy (who are slated to play this year’s Vive Latino), while remaining active through collaborations with Latin American producers like Raido and Naked Geometry.

Baez has already teased us with “Decile,” a Spanish rework of “Tell Your Friends” by The Weeknd, but what can we expect from his forthcoming original material? To give us a taste of what’s to come, Baez has taken a snapshot of his creative mind – in the form of these 13 songs.

“I tried to focus my selection on the songs that touched me when I was between 13 and 16 years old, but I also included some contemporary Central American artists to contextualize my work within what’s happening in this region.” Look forward to his solo set at this year’s Ceremonia in Mexico.
