Kali Uchis’ “After the Storm” Video Turns Tyler, the Creator and Bootsy Collins Into Groceries

When Kali Uchis released the soulful wonderland that is her track with Tyler, the Creator and Bootsy Collins, it was clear that a music video was in order. That clip featuring the visually striking trio is now out, a playful take on the lyrics’ hopefulness, which casts Uchis’ co-stars in supporting roles as consumer products picked up at the grocery store by the wistful Colombian singer.

Are we seeing a homage to the current fascination with purchase-ready sex dolls? If only you could all buy the funk of Bootsy in a box of breakfast cereal or conjure a life partner with a packet of Flower Boy garden seeds! The video was directed by British auteur Nadia Lee Cohen, who has created an oeuvre of skewering, kitschy suburbanite consumer culture, and closes with a scene of the bizarre domesticity made possible by Kali’s purchase of Tyler, the Creator seeds.

“After the Storm” is a single off of Kali Uchis upcoming album, rumored to be dropping in 2018. Previously released singles from the project include “Nuestro Planeta” with Reckon and “Tyrant” featuring Jorja Smith. The Colombian singer is currently on tour with Lana del Rey.
