Kali Uchis Flexes Her Hustle on the Streets of Colombia in the “Ridin’ Round” Video

Virtuosic songstress Kali Uchis has done it again – the multihyphenate Colombiana just dropped a gorgeous new video for her DJ Dahi-produced edit of “Ridin’ Round.” While the original dripped with her signature saccharine R&B touch, the new cut is a bit grittier, a reggae take on the bubblegum pop sound of 60s girl groups.

Kali Uchis co-directed the video with Felipe Holguin Caro, and the familiar hot pinks and sky blues of her visual style take a backseat to the more narrative-centered approach to this clip. Uchis stars as a baby hustler who gets kicked out for bungling her domestic duties, eventually joining a motorbike gang and flexing through Pereira, Colombia’s streets. At the end of the clip, she hits up the discoteca for a much-needed break from balling so hard.

Clip after clip, Kali Uchis manages to outdo herself; as the writer, director, and producer of all her songs and videos, her talent for smoked-out R&B jams and impeccable neo-chola aesthetics remains bar none. By giving the residents of Pereira some shine, and frequently offering her fans list spots for sold out shows, Kali exhibits a genuine and refreshing commitment to her art and community that’s hard to come by these days.

With huge names like DJ Dahi in her crew (he’s produced for the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Drake), there’s nowhere to go but up.
