Dominican rave princess Maluca is finally back. After what seemed like an eternity of sporadically sharing singles and one-off collabs, the former Mad Decent signee signaled her return with “Mala,” a self-love anthem lifted by warped synth stabs and steel drums. Now the track has alien visuals to match, with Maluca taking her proper massage-chair throne.
Over a bubbling beat, Maluca gets a futuristic spa treatment courtesy of a cutting-edge massage chair and an apparatus straight out of A Clockwork Orange. It’s a surrealistic critique of quick-fix cosmetic treatments, and the clip mirrors some of the themes Maluca and Future Brown tackled in the “Vernáculo” video. She might be reflecting on her recent sobriety announcement, or perhaps she’s just championing a narrative of self-care we so desperately need.
