Maluca Falls Down the 90s House Rabbit Hole in Robyn & La Bagatelle Magique’s New Video

Robyn and La Bagatelle Magique have just released the video for their 90s house-inspired track “Love is Free,” and they’ve invited Dominican experimental vixen Maluca along to add some street cred to the mix. The track is pure house excellence, with a melody and chorus perfect for getting lost in. Maluca manages to hold her own next to her Swedish gal-pal and mentor, with a fierce verse and some rhymes in Spanish.

The concept for the visual is actually the making of a music video, serving as a wonderfully meta excuse to showcase an array of mind-bending outfits and scenarios without the burden of context. In the video, Maluca and Robyn run around between a slumber party, a backstage make-up station,  an art space, and an outside lot, all while clad in latex-fringed gowns, high-waisted, wide-legged pajama pants, and Maluca’s soon-to-be iconic leather chaps. Markus Jägerstedt (aka one half of La Bagatelle) gets the considerably less glamorous role of Guy Who Has Different-Colored Substances Splattered on His Face.

Regardless of the outfits, this is 3 a.m., 6-drinks-and-a-pill music at its best. Even though we’re loving this new music and direction from both Robyn and Maluca, it only highlights how long it’s been since they’ve given us new music to obsess over. Let’s hope 2016 brings the bangers!
