Twenty-one-year-old revelation Omar Apollo just dropped his second single of 2019, following “Trouble” released in January. “Ashamed” showcases Omar’s songwriting and soul chops, thanks to a funky vamp featuring wah-wah guitar melodies and some Prince-meets-Parliament falsetto harmonies. The chorus is pure seduction, and will have you hooked.

The song premiered on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music show, alongside a brief interview with Omar, in which the artist shared his inspirations, his thoughts on the immigrant experience in Indiana, and why he doesn’t sing more in Spanish. They also joke about the production of corn in Indiana, so there’s that.

“Ashamed,” like “Trouble,” is expected to be included in Apollo’s forthcoming EP – but details of the release remain foggy. Omar will also be touring extensively, beginning March through June. Check out the dates here.
