New York City-based house producer Rizzla described the Latin/Caribbean-inspired sound of his Fade to Mind debut EP Iron Cages to Fact Magazine as a “complicated hybrid of my sociopolitical view of the world and weird, traumatic experiences that I’ve had.” So the pairing of his uptempo, electric fidget on “Iron Cages” and “Twitch” makes perfect sense with Yulan Grant‘s directorial work clipping together video footage of street riots.
It’s both a literally and figuratively arresting video, and as set to a track meant for voguing at ballroom parties, it makes for an aggressive statement about politics, race, gender and culture.
