Aborigenes! Listen up, because Su Majestad Imperial Silverio is about to blow your mind. If you thought Maná’s remix colab with Steve Aoki was cray, Silverio’s cover of Laura León’s “Suavecito,” featuring La Tesorito herself, is sure to change your life. Better yet, the song is part of an upcoming EP comprised of three Laura León covers and an original track.

Known for his gritty dance music and intense live performances, Silverio could not have chosen better source material to contrast his own signature punk kitsch. The mad EDM monarch’s “Suavecito” cover is nowhere near as suave as the original, cranking up the cumbia quotient by speeding up the melody and taking the pitch to an almost saccharine high. In true Silverio fashion, this song might give you diabetes.

Under all the tongue-in-cheek, León’s own vocals keep the track grounded, and away from becoming jokey. We’re getting the best of both worlds – a sultry Laura León cumbia classic, updated through Silverio’s grimy and debauched production skills. This is the kind of song that will always make it onto your drunken tío’s 3 a.m. birthday playlist. Coming from His Majesty and the Queen, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
