Maluca and Future Brown Give Beauty Commercials a Surrealist Twist in “Vernáculo” Video

Future Brown‘s new video is a three-minute interpretation, as well as a critique, of those beauty products commercials we’re used to watching on TV, with a slight surrealistic twist. In the video for “Vernáculo,” commissioned by Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), we see a group of women, including guest singer Maluca, acting in a way we always see people on a L’Oreal commercial, for example. Meanwhile, Future Brown cosmetic line, along with 3D renders of things like planet Earth, go in and out in inventive transitions, filled with sparkles and shades of brown. At the end, it gets weirder and weirder, in a “Too Many Cooks” kind of way. Well, that’s and exaggeration, but check it out anyway right here.

“Vernáculo” is an ice-cold reggaeton number, and it’s interesting to see that Future Brown’s version of the genre sounds a lot like the mainstream songs we hear on the radio. Future Brown’s self-titled debut album is out February 24 on Warp.
