Video: Magpie Jay Conjure Seduction, Desire, and Hot Guitar Solos in “Sexy Sinister Sex”

The excellent Tico blog Dance To The Radio tipped us off about Magpie Jay’s bluesy magic. Thankfully, they decided to give us their video for their first single “Sexy Sinister Sex” to premiere it. So, why not show it to everybody?

Magpie Jay remember a time when rock n’ roll was all about desire: recognizing it and following it to its last consequences. They know what they want, and they get it by using Julián Garita’s big R&B-inspired voice and guitarist Felipe Apestegui’s finest guitar skills to solo his way around the road to pleasure. The results are a stoner-ish concoction that proves that there’s plenty of heat still left in rock music.

Their debut single is also accompanied by their first ever video which was done by Bangbangbang Producciones and directed by Ann Alfaro. The clip features beautiful photography that can serve as a narration device all by itself; although this is not a case. I don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say a girl, a turtle and things falling down only to come back up in reverse are the axis found in this slo-mo visual document.

“Sexy Sinister Sex” will be part of the Magpie’s debut LP Monte Carlo which will be available by the end of March. Costa Rica is getting some action in the coming month through festivals like SXSW and Epicentro, the later being one of the biggest thing in the country.
