Only days before their appearance on the second day of Festival Nrmal, Buscabulla just released a new music video for “Métele,” one of the gorgeous tracks that appears on their Dev Hynes-produced, self-titled EP.
For this video, the Boricua duo enlisted directors Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini, of documentary Mala Mala, a film about the lives of trans-women and male-identified drag queens in Puerto Rico that premiered last year at Tribeca (“Métele” was on the film’s soundtrack, scoring its opening credits).
In the video, we see some of these trans-women and drag queens in very intimate settings, one rehearsing for a show, and the other one sharing moments with her man. The song lyrics take on a new dimension with the video, like “esta noche me pongo los tacos,” or when the word “métele” syncs up with a shot of a queen tucking in.
In some ways, the video seems to be in dialogue with Hynes’ 2011 video for “Sutphin Boulevard,” directed by Alan Del Rio Ortiz, which features dancing drag queens against a 90s New York backdrop.
