Guardado and Moreno Crowned Dutch Eredivisie Champions For Second Season in a Row

PSV Eindhoven and Mexican cracks Andrés Guardado and Héctor Moreno have been crowned Dutch Eredivisie champions for a second consecutive season.

“El Capi” Guardado campeón! ?

PSV clinched the championship in crazy, chaotic fashion on Sunday, defeating PEC Zwolle 3-1 at the IJsseldelta Stadion.

Title ambitions weren’t totally in their hands; a win for league-leading Ajax would have crowned the Amsterdam side champion, but Bryan Smeets’ equalizer for De Graafschap – second from the bottom in the Eredivisie table – translated into a 1-1 draw and another lost opportunity at domestic glory for Frank de Boer’s men.

Amidst the crumbling commotion, Luuk de Jong scored his second shot of the night for PSV to put his squad one step closer to claiming the title. PSV 3-1 PEC Zwolle. Festivities were soon to follow.

Now, both Guardado and Moreno have won two Dutch league titles. The only other Mexican international to win it? Chivas’ Carlos Salcido. Talk about tremendous feats.

Current feels:

PSV had established winning the championship and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League as preconditions for Guardado’s potential participation in the Olympics this summer, this on top of Copa Centenario duties. Will we see the senior squad captain in Rio?!
