Today in totally absurd news, 43-year-old Mexican fútbol icon Cuauhtémoc Blanco is scheduled to play a special farewell testimonial with Club América in an official Liga MX match against Morelia in week 9 of the Clausura 2016 tournament. The match will take place on March 5 at the Estadio Azteca.

We kid you not, this is actually a thing that is actually happening. Yes, your instincts were correct in leading you to recognize that Blanco is, in fact, currently the mayor of Cuernavaca, a city riddled with terrible drug-related violence. You’d think he might have shit to take care of as a local politician. How about those general guidelines that state that we shouldn’t mix politics with play? Well, no use dwelling on it now.

Cuau is registered with shirt no. 100 for the match and will apparently play between 30-45 minutes. Did we mention that this is an official league game? What does this say about Morelia? Or Las Aguilas’ attack? Banter for days, fam.

“In this celebration year, in our Centennial, we recognize someone who was born, raised and gave everything in defense of our great club,” América’s statement read.

If you’re feeling some kinda way about Cuau’s return, here are 16 epic moments from his career. P.S.: don’t fear, given his track record, this probably won’t be the last time we see him on the pitch.
