Netflix Taps Mexican Director Gaz Alazraki to Create Spanish-Language Soccer Series

Director of Mexican box office smash hit Nosotros los Nobles, Gaz Alazraki is creating a 13 episode series, to be binged on via Netflix. It’s the first Spanish-language original series for the streaming behemoth. Alazraki caught the industry’s attention when his riches-to-rags story of three spoiled rotten siblings became the highest grossing film in Mexican cinema history (until it was dethroned by Instructions Not Included a few months later.)

Reuniting the production team behind Nosotros los Nobles as well as its star, Luis Gerardo Mendez, and filmed entirely in Mexico the untitled new series will take a satirical “family friendly” look at an upper-class household in Mexico. Centering around what happens to the heirs of a futbol club after the owner dies, it seems that Netflix is stepping up its international game! This is the second Latin American series greenlit by Netflix, the first being Narcos, a take on Pablo Escobar and the Medellin cartel helmed by Brazilian director José Padilha and set to premiere in 2015.
