Watch Stephany Mayor’s Amazing Bicycle Kick in Iceland League Win

Goals, goals, and goals. That’s what the beautiful game is all about, but then you have those strikes that just stand out for their sheer beauty – strikes that elevate soccer to a fine art.

That’s what Stephany Mayor from Mexico did. The striker plays for Akureyri in Iceland. She scored the fifth goal in her team’s 6-0 win in the local championship in stunning fashion: inside the box she controlled the ball with her left before attempting an audacious bicycle kick.

In general, such attempts tend to be skied or don’t come off for a panoply of reasons. But not this time: Mayor’s execution was perfect. With her move, she liberated herself from her marker before cooly dispatching the ball into the back of the net.

Akureyri is vying for its second Icelandic title in its history. The won their first title in 2012 to break Breidablik’s hegemony with 16 domestic championships to its name. If Mayor keeps scoring outrageous goals, they may well succeed in their quest.
