Eslabon Armado and Peso’s viral hit is reaching new heights on all kinds of charts. Yesterday (April 17), their collaboration, “Ella Baila Sola,” became the first regional Mexican song to hit the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Eslabon Armado originally released “Ella Baila Sola” with Peso Pluma on March 16. From there, the collaboration started going viral on TikTok. Eslabon Armado’s sad sierreño sound got a corrido tumbado twist with Peso Pluma in the mix. Last week, the group released the highly-anticipated music video for the song, which saw them throw a Great Gatsby-inspired party with Peso Pluma.

Following the release of the music video, “Ella Baila Sola” has rocketed up the charts. On the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week, Eslabon Armado’s collaboration with Peso Pluma climbed to No. 10. It’s the first time in the history of the all-genre chart that a regional Mexican music song has cracked the top 10.

Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma are also making history on Spotify’s Global 50 chart. “Ella Baila Sola” sits at No. 1 on said chart. They have managed to fend off Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny’s collaboration “Un x100to,” which has already reached No. 4 since coming out yesterday. This marks the first time that a Mexican act has reached the summit of Spotify’s Global chart.

According to Maykol Sanchez, Head of Artists and Label Partnerships LATAM & US Latin at Spotify, nearly 13 billion hours of Latin music were streamed worldwide on Spotify in 2022, and has only continued to grow this year.

“Musica Mexicana is the latest driving force within Latin music, and Peso Pluma is at the forefront of it all,” he tells Remezcla through email. Just the last year, Peso has more than tripled his audience on the platform thanks to songs like “Ella Baila Sola” and “PRC.” “Peso Pluma is showcasing the unstoppable strength of Mexican culture,” he concludes.

Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma are no strangers to making history. Last year, the Mexican-American band became the first act to debut in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart with a regional Mexican music album. Their Nostalgia LP appeared at No. 9 on the chart last May. Peso Pluma recently became the first Mexican artist to cross over 30 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Peso Pluma is now confirmed to be performing at the Latin American Music Awards. He will be joining one of this year’s most-nominated artists, Becky G, to perform their song “Chanel.” The awards will air live from Las Vegas this Thursday, April 20, on Univision, UniMás, and Galavisión.
