Back in July, we featured Inocentea documentary project about Inocente Izucar, a young, undocumented immigrant who struggles with homelessness as she pursues her artistic ambitions in San Diego – in our crowdfunding Cashflow column.. We thought the project had great potential, and it turns out we weren’t the only ones. A month later, John Leguizamo come on board as an executive producer, and the film aired as a primetime special on MTV.

We’re happy to report that the documentary is still on an upward trajectory. Yesterday, it was announced that Inocente has been nominated for an Oscar!  The film, which not only helped put a face on the issues facing undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as young children, but also gave Inocente a valuable platform to promote her artistic career, will be competing against four other documentary shorts.

According to filmmakers Sean and Andrea Fine, “Inocente … is so excited and she asked me if she could bring her rabbit to the Oscars.”

We at Remezcla are rooting for them!
