Melonie Diaz, an actress who just-so-happens to be Latina (just kidding, we all know it doesn’t work that way) will be a guest star on HBO & Lena Dunham’s love-child Girls. The critically-acclaimed but polarizing TV show chronicles the trials and tribulations of 20-something BK-dwelling hipsters, so we can only assume Diaz’s character will fall in with that Bushwick loft party-attending, Grumpy’s coffee-swilling crowd. While we’re making assumptive leaps, I think it’s safe to say that her character would totally be a Remezcla reader. So Melonie, if you’re reading this and need any tips from someone who lived around the corner from Grumpy’s for four years, holler at our City Editor Andrea Gompf. Or just come by the office. It’s in Williamsburg. Perfect for method acting research purposes, obvi.
In all seriousness, we’re excited for Diaz because we’ve been following her career. Having made a reputation for herself in the Indie scene with films Raising Victor Vargas, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and Be Kind Rewind, this talented actress has already locked lips with three of my on-screen crushes (FYI: Victor Vargas, Shia LeBouf and the-artist-formerly-known-as Mos Def). Now, with the Sundance and Cannes success of Fruitvale Station, a film based on the true story of Oscar Grant who was fatally shot by a police officer on NYE, Melonie Diaz is gaining even more attention as a versatile actress.
I’m sure having been raised in a Puerto Rican home on the LES has something to do with her adaptability. A graduate of NYU Film School and an admirer of Lena Dunham’s work, here’s hoping Girls does this girl some justice.
