Five Collections That Killed It This NYFW

Now that Fashion Week is over and we had the weekend to reflect and recuperate, we’d like to offer you a recap of the collections that really stood out above everything else. In particular, we’re interested in highlighting the new houses that are taking the industry by storm; now more than ever, people of color are participating, sitting front row and/or killing the game. Here’s a quick round up to get you up to speed with who’s blowing up, what are the must-have items to watch for next year, and who’s really changing the way we perceive fashion.

Hood by Air

The label that grew up from Harlem and downtown’s underground is now a mainstay at NYFW and their show had everyone talking:

Without a doubt, Boychild stole the show…

Telfar Global

With a simple baby boy/girl color palette and diverse, smiling models, Telfar SS15 was the most refreshing show of this season. Helmed by Telfar Clemens, the line has a following that includes Dev Hynes/Blood Orange, Maluca and the VFiles fam, Been Trill’s Heron Preston and more.

Telfar Global’s signature on the runway is the beaming smiles from the models. And would you take a look at that smile, Filipina reggaeton artist Kay Rizz is sporting? Hell yeah girl! #salbaheseason

Reppin’ it for the shorties! Proof that you don’t really need to be 5’8 to storm a runway, you just need the look.

This Telfar handbag is probably the most coveted new accessory in NYC. Check out De Se sporting the smaller white version in this DIS profile.

Donna Karen

Donna Karen’s collection, infamous throughout the city for the Rita Ora advertisements in every goddamn taxi, showed some cool faces on the runway below but failed to credit the baby hair look to the urban mamis who invented it. To top it off, one model was disrespected and boop’d from the show.

Luar Zepol

With some truly inspiring, even frightening looks, Luar Zepol took over Webster Hall both during the day for the runway show and at night with their afterparty hosted by LA record label Fade to Mind.

Jeremy Scott

The internet would make you think Mazurbate was the only model on the runway at Jeremy Scott but no, you can view the whole collection here.
