The official start of Summer in New York is still a little over a month away but on Friday, a gust of hope swept through the city by way of an all too familiar breeze. Refreshing as usual… yet gutting when we remember that this season, and perhaps many to come, will no longer be the same. Awake NY, a streetwear brand that’s proudly and stylistically representative of the state it claims, is also making a comeback. Lord knows we need some normality and good news, si o si?

Angelo Baque, former brand director at Supreme and owner of Awake NY, announced the upcoming release of their Spring/Summer ’20 collection. The official date is not yet public. The news was unexpected yet right on time. The final bloom in Central Park confirms the deadline met.

The Queens-native and his team paused their social presence and website in March, vaguely announcing almost as much in a heartfelt message. “We find ourselves centering around what matters, redefining our relationships with our loved ones and ourselves,” the message partially said. Proof that just because you’re silent doesn’t mean you’re not hard at work.

The first look at the upcoming line is a patterned corduroy outerwear garment with the label’s name sprawled across the back in custom-made typeface by freelance graphic designer Alexis Taïeb.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on further details.

Update: May 19 at 11 a.m. ET:

Awake NY’s latest is now live and available for purchase here. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE), a non-profit in Queens, NY.
