Cardi B has pledged to pay the funeral expenses for all the victims of a fire that happened earlier this month in the Bronx Twin Parks. Seventeen people were killed, including eight children, when a faulty space heater started the fire inside a 19-story apartment building. It is the deadliest fire in New York City in 30 years.

“I’m extremely proud to be from the Bronx and I have lots of family and friends who live and work there still,” Cardi said in a statement. “So, when I heard about the fire and all of the victims, I knew I needed to do something to help.”

Cardi added, “I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing, but I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal. I send my prayers and condolences to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy.”

According to Cardi’s spokesperson, the “Bodak Yellow” artist has teamed up with The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to make the donation to the victims’ families, so “that the final wishes for their loved ones were met.”

Last week, rapper Fat Joe also joined the relief fund for victims of the fire. Other celebrities like hip-hop artists Jay-Z, DJ Khaled, and Busta Rhymes, actor Anthony Ramos, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, and former New York Yankees player Derek Jeter also contributed.
