I would say I am not crying, but that would be far from the truth. Just a few hours ago, the nation witnessed the first Latina Supreme Court Justice swear in the first woman, first Black woman, and first Southeast Asian woman as Vice President of the United States.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor was chosen by Madam Vice President Kamala Harris to administer the oath. Both women were raised by immigrant mothers and both have used their powerful positions to issue rebukes to the Trump administration, Harris as a California Senator and Sotomayor in her Supreme Court dissents.

It is indeed a history making day, and many on social media were moved to tears.

The significance of being children of immigrants is not lost on many who identify as first and second generation Americans.

To many, this was an emotional moment to witness, not just for themselves, but for their daughters and what this means for their futures.

The new administration has just begun the work to undo the past four years of a presidency whose biggest legacy will be upholding white supremacy. With the historic moment of two powerful women of color, one swearing in the other for the second most powerful position in the country, hope has returned.
