Barbie Ferreira is no stranger to the spotlight, but there’s nothing quite like the attention she’s gotten since she started playing Kat Hernandez in the HBO hit Euphoria. And stardom brings a lot of good things, but also a lot of challenges, which the actress discussed in an interview with Who What Wear. Among the issues discussed were toxic positivity – an issue the show itself has explored, finding clothes that fit, and the journey to loving your own body.

Ferreira, who doesn’t just enjoy fashion, but sounds like someone who loves expressing herself through what she’s wearing, discussed how, even for someone with resources, it’s hard to find clothes that fit. “Truth be told, there is an extreme limitation to anything I can wear,” she shared, explaining that dressing how you want is something much easier for thinner bodies.

“It’s not radical for me to be wearing a crop top,” she told Who What Wear, as she called any suggestion that it is a backhanded compliment.  “I think bigger bodies are not as ‘trendy’ as they used to be, which is really sad to me,” she went on to explain, in a conversation that also went on to issues of self-love, and how we all struggle with confidence, just like her character on Euphoria does.

For Ferreira, it was therapeutic to get to play Kat and to put some of the issues, particularly ones that the pandemic brought up, into the character. And she hopes that, by putting her own struggles out there, it can help others realize this idea of perfection isn’t reality. No one has it all figured out.

Not Barbie Ferreira, and not Kat Hernandez. But they’ll both continue trying.
