A misogynist comment made on an Instagram post from Eva Mendes did not go unanswered.

Two days ago the actress shared a black-and-white shot, wearing a dark dress and fine-looking jewelry, jogging away from the coastline at a beach. It was a throwback: “This picture was taken at least 15 years ago,” she wrote. “Haven’t seen a beach this year. Haven’t been on a run this year.”

Someone thought it was pertinent that Mendes’ husband, Ryan Gosling, fix what they framed as a problem: “You need to tell Ryan to get you out more,” @erinhols commented.

But for Mendes, there’s no issue to resolve.

“No thank you, I’m good. Rather be home with my man than anywhere else in the world,” the celeb replied.

Harpars Bazaar detailed the exchange between the U.S.-born actress and model of Cuban descent and the user, noting how private, compared to other Hollywood couples, Mendes and Gosling have been throughout their almost 10 years of marriage.

There’s another takeaway here, though: The user who commented appears to be a woman. Let us not forget that internalized misogyny in women is a thing, too.

Eva Mendes will go for a run if and when she feels like it. She won’t need Gosling’s help. And if she stays in for months on end with him, that’s fine too—even if we weren’t mid-pandemic, it would still be fine. Let Mendes make her own choices.
