Fat Joe is the latest to add his support to the victims of the Twin Parks fire. The New York Native has teamed up with The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and is urging everyone to help. His requests have not fallen on deaf ears. In fact, like his music, it is getting a lot of attention. Fellow hip hop artists Jay-Z, DJ Khaled, and Busta Rhymes have added contributions. Also adding money to the relief fund is Hamilton actor Anthony Ramos, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, and former Yankee Derek Jeter.

“I’m asking everyone that has a Heart to donate. these people are mostly immigrants that have no where to go they lost everything. it’s 10 degrees in the Bronx today! WE NEED YOUR HELP 🙏🏽❤️,” he wrote on social media.

The hip-hop veteran also took to Instagram for a last minute fundraising effort. In the almost two hour livestream Fat Joe speaks directly to his 4.6 million followers and pleads for help.  “It’s not just about Puerto Ricans. It’s not just about Mexican. It’s not just about Black. It’s not just about Jewish. It’s not just about Muslim. It’s not just about Catholic. It’s about people,” he said. “This don’t got nothing to do with me. I don’t make nothing out of this. When you’re in philanthropy and you’re in the giving back business, there is no pride. There is no ego,” he continued. “People be all, ‘yo Fat Joe on Instagram begging for [money]’ I don’t care. It’s for the people.

By the end of the live stream, Fat Joe had raised over $21,ooo for relief efforts. “They came here for the American dream and they got it all taken from them in the middle of the night,” he said near the end of the video.

The Bronx Twin Parks fire killed 17 people, eight of which were children, over the weekend. As of yesterday (Jan 11), all of the victims have been identified. The youngest among the fatalities was two years old. The medical examiner reported that all of the casualties died of smoke inhalation.
