Everyone with functional eyes knows that J Lo is one of the baddest to ever do it. Sometimes I watch the “Booty” video and shed a single tear because at 45 years-old she looks better than I have ever looked in my 20s. I could probably write a 5,000 word feature on the blessings J Lo has rained down upon this earth (the “Waiting for Tonight” lasers, the pink Juicy Couture tracksuit trend, Diddy’s ability to dance salsa, the hope that science will some day understand her ability to defy the normal aging process, etc.)
Now, she can add Google muse and Internet pioneer to that list. According to Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt, J Lo’s legendary green Versace dress at the 2000 Grammy Awards is the reason Google Image search was invented.
In an article written for the Project Syndicate, Schmidt revealed how the image search function evolved back in 2000. “People wanted more than just text,” he wrote. “This first became apparent after the 2000 Grammy Awards, where Jennifer Lopez wore a green dress that, well, caught the world’s attention. At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: JLo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born.”
Mind officially blown.
