For many people, getting a tattoo marks a time in their life that they want to memorialize. For superstar Karol G, her newest tattoo, a barbed-wire heart on her left shoulder, comes after experiencing a year of turbulence in her personal life.
“People don’t know that this tattoo is the opener of my [next] album,” Karol G told Allure magazine. “I mean, literally, a lot of things start from here. The tattoo represents a moment in my life where I questioned myself a lot. I strengthened and weakened myself a lot. It was a very important moment for me personally, not for my career. For Carolina.”
Karol G is currently on a personal journey right now. While her music career as a reggaeton artist continues to rise, last year was noticeably rough for her after news hit that her and fiancé Anuel AA ended their high-profile relationship.
While most people focused on her Bichota tour and other career highlights, there were plenty of fans who were still interested in Karol G’s personal life and whether she would reunite with Anuel at some point. His showing up on stage with her at a concert didn’t help slow the rumors that the couple might get back together.
Then, of course, Anuel’s own post-Karol G dating life, deleting photos of her from his Instagram, and his efforts to remove his Karol G tattoos were a bit too much for fans to ignore.
Now, however, it feels like Karol G is the one that is in the driver’s seat of her own narrative – whether it’s being a positive role model for Colombia or testing the water in other industries like acting. Sure, her new tattoo isn’t the reason Karol G seems ready to conquer anything that comes her way in 2022, but the symbolism is evident: strength, overcoming obstacles, and being the “bichota” everyone loves.
