If you’re seeking terror beyond the daily news or you’re already lamenting the lost opportunity to wear a costume outside this year, some cities across the country have you covered with contactless Halloween events.

In spite of COVID-19’s devastating effect on the entertainment industry, the resurgence of drive-in theaters has been a silver lining for an old-school enterprise. Plus, there are innovative virtual art galleries, drive-in drag shows, and even drive-through strip clubs in the face of crisis.

According to the National Retail Federation, over 68% of consumers celebrated Halloween last year and spent an average of $86 on a combination of candy, costumes and decorations. So, as we catch early, distant whiffs of pumpkin spice, the industries with the most to earn or lose are already prepping.

Los Angeles, home to theme parks where folks would normally head to—Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights, Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor cruise, Knott’s Scary Farm, etc.—is offering alternatives to trick-or-treating and costume parties this Halloween. In fact, there’s already a waitlist for a Stranger Things drive-through of Hawkins and the Upside Down along with a reimagined “immersive drive-up” of L.A.’s classic Haunted Hayride, which will feature multimedia scary stories on massive screens.

Near Miami, Miramar Regional Park will host a Horrorland Horror House featuring themed rooms such as “The Carnival” and “Christmas Nightmare.” Outside of your car, Six Flags will be hosting an entirely outdoors Hallowfest with mazes and masked scare-actors in New Jersey, Maryland, Missouri, Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma.

If you don’t live in any of those states or don’t feel comfortable going outside during the pandemic, you can support the USPS indoors with these adorable costumes for pups or kids or check out our Latinx Halloween costume archive. We’ll also keep you up to date on horror movies for your Netflix binge.
