Maluma may have attended the official red-carpet premiere of Marry Me last week (February 8) in Hollywood, but the singer apparently wanted to experience watching the movie with a regular audience, too. And, yes, that included ordering a big tub of popcorn.

After announcing online that he was “going to see #MarryMe in a movie theater,” the “Sin Contrato” singer showed up at a Cinemark movie theater at El Tesoro Shopping Park in Medellín with some family and friends and other moviegoers, to fans utter delight.

In the romantic comedy, Maluma plays Bastian, a popular Latine musician who is engaged to an equally talented singer named Kat Valdez, who is played by Jennifer López. The couple has decided that they will get married in front of their fans during a concert. However, when Kat finds out moments before they take the stage that Bastian has cheated on her, she takes a leap of faith and marries Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson), a math teacher in the audience, who was dragged to the concert by his co-worker and young daughter.

Remezcla called Marry Me “rom-com gold” and credits Maluma for stepping up and playing what is, ultimately, the villain of the story. “[Maluma] does an excellent job at it while making it glaringly obvious how men like him are treated in real life,” Remezcla wrote. “Thank God, Charlie is there to balance him out in the movie and show Kat that there is love, kindness, and honesty out there that can sweep you off your feet and show you love you’ve never experienced before.”
