Somehow, drug smugglers continue finding innovative ways to do what they do. Well, as innovative as carrier pigeons can be. A Costa Rican jail caught a pigeon wearing a feather-colored fanny pack that contained 14 grams of cocaine and 14 grams of marijuana. The director of the jail, Pablo Bertozzi, told Efe that drug traffickers need to be monitored closely, and that drug addiction continues to be a problem in the jail. “This is nothing new,” he said. “In the past, they have used cats and dogs to move drugs. Now it seems they are using pigeons that come inside from the outside.”

The Interwebs has appropriately nicknamed the pigeon NarcoPaloma. They’ve joked that some Alfred Hitchcock Birds-style shit is going to go down if it’s not released from the Centro de Rescate Animal ZooAve.

Among other things.
