Even though Lin-Manuel Miranda has tried to make it possible for theater lovers to attend his wildly successful Hamilton by offering same-day tickets for $10, you basically need the luck of a Powerball winner to score tickets. And even those who want to buy tickets at full price will find it difficult as the show is sold out until fall.
And now, The New York Times reports, the show has become popularity even among counterfeiters, who have been busy preying on unsuspecting people. Every day people learn they have bought fake tickets to the show. For Fred Santore Jr., who has worked at the Richards Rodgers Theater for more than 30 years, this is the first time he has seen counterfeit tickets to a Broadway show, but the NYT says that though it’s rare, shows like The Book of Mormon and The Producers were also targeted by counterfeiters.
Perhaps the only way you’ll ever get to watch Hamilton at this point is if it’s made into a feature film, which is what I am personally hoping for. Unfortunately, there is currently no word on whether or not this is happening.
But Miranda’s friend, director Ryan Coogler said there is great interest in bringing the hip-hop opera to the big screen. “I think anyone who ever picked up a camera would [make a Hamilton movie],” he said, according to Vanity Fair. “That’s all people in California are talking about right now.”
