After rumors last week turned out to be true that Shakira and her longtime boyfriend and footballer Gerard Piqué were ending their 11-year relationship, more gossip started spreading online about the Colombian pop star’s mental health after photos were taken of an ambulance at her home in Barcelona on May 28.

Luckily, the rumors were untrue that an ambulance had to be called for Shakira after she allegedly suffered from an anxiety attack stemming from a verbal fight with Piqué. Sadly, however, the ambulance was called because Shakira’s father was injured after a serious fall.

Shakira cleared up the rumors on social media because she had been receiving a lot of concerned messages.

“My dad unfortunately had a bad fall, and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now,” she wrote. “Please do send all your best wishes his way and thank you all as always for all of your love and support.”

On Saturday (June 4), Shakira and Piqué confirmed their breakup via a joint statement. “We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the couple stated. “We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”

News of their split came after rumors circulated that Piqué was unfaithful. It was also reported that the couple was no longer living together. The reason behind the separation has not been confirmed. Shakira and Piqué share two sons, Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.
