TikTok is launching a new program aimed specifically at Latine creators and artists. Named “TikTok Latinx Creatives,” the project will put 150 artists alongside some of the biggest celebrities and entrepreneurs to further develop their creative skills. The end goal is to take the artists’ creative talents and help make them a new career.

On TikTok, influencers can earn some bank. Micro-influencers can make $200 per post, while creators with millions of followers can earn thousands per post. Now imagine having the help of an established platform and media company to help you.

That media company is MACRO and they are TikTok’s partner in this initiative. MACRO, a multi-platform media company started by Charles D. King, aims to elevate the voices of Black people and other persons of color. If you are not familiar with Charles D. King here is what you should know right from the start. He started in the mailroom at WME and became the first African-American partner at the company. He has had a hand in developing the careers of Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Missy Elliot, and Janet Jackson. In regards to MACRO, their film side alone has earned nine Oscar nominations and one win. Their projects include Judas and the Black Messiah, Fences, and Just Mercy, to name a few. The point is: they’re a big deal.

But, the Latine communities on TikTok are not a shrinking violet on the platform. A search of the #FamiliaLatina hashtag on the platform and you will find an array of musicians, artists, and creators as diverse and talented as the art they share. The power of the different Latine communities is certainly a force to be reckoned with and this initiative is further proof of that.

Applications to be among the 150 selected are open right now through September 8.
