Another day, another criticism on what a woman should do with her body. And no matter where you stand on Yailin La Más Viral’s relationship with Anuel AA, we can probably all agree it’s getting out of hand.
This time, it all started the way things often start online, with a social media post. Yailin herself posted the picture, a pretty innocuous one with a dog, the kind that almost always has people commenting more on the dog than the person because the internet loves dogs. But, this time, the comments were about Yailin. And not about the stunning yellow dress she’s wearing, either.
Instead, people chose to criticize, wag their fingers, and make fun of the fact that clearly visible on Yailin’s forearm is the name “Emmanuel,” which is Anuel AA’s real name. Well, that and the bracelet she was wearing, which people pointed out might be a bit too tight while making sure Yailin knew what “team” they are on because pitting women against each other is still a thing.
Perhaps, if it were only the bracelet comments, and if the internet didn’t have a history of judging this woman – and all women – for anything and everything they do regarding their body, we could let this one go. But the truth is, whatever our opinion of her relationship with Anuel AA is, no one has any right to tell Yailin what she can do with her body.
That includes what she wears, the tattoos she chooses to get, and basically anything else. Social media has grown to the point where people feel like their opinion on other people’s decisions is not just encouraged, it’s necessary. But it isn’t so. Yailin can do whatever she wants with her body, and the internet doesn’t really get an opinion on it.
At least, not one she has to listen to.
