PHOTOS: Let These 7 Fly Students Inspire Your Fall Wardrobe

Between NYFW and the start of fall semester, the month of September gets people extra juiced about freshening up their looks. We talked to students in Chicago, NYC, and San Antonio to see what they’re wearing this season, where they get their style inspiration, and how their identities are reflected in their look.

Describe your look:
A little mix of everything, I don’t know how to categorize my style because I like to experiment with different styles and looks. I usually wear something based on how I’m feeling that day. Therefore, my look is just “me”!
Where do you find style inspiration?
I find my style inspiration all over the place, it can range from things I see online to someone I see walking on the street. So, the people that surround me and the pop culture that I’m exposed to really inspires my style. I also get inspiration from other cultures.

Alliana Persaud, 22 years-old, University of Texas at San Antonio
Describe your look:
My look is college chic but I am not always a “girlie” girl. It’s hot in San Antonio for most of the year and definitely at the beginning of the fall semester so I can get away with tank tops and skirts. The heels take the outfit from casual to trendy. I chose colors I thought looked well together but neutral enough so I don’t stick out like a sore thumb in the hallways.
Where do you find style inspiration?
I don’t have someone specific I try to dress like. I mix it up a lot. I’m from the islands so less is more. You’ll find me in a skirt and stockings during the winter. That bracelet I was wearing was from back home. It was made out of conch shells.

Anthony Dominguez, 22 years-old, Hunter College, New York, NY
Describe your look:
I guess the most coherent way to put it would be low-key, attempting to balance timeless patterns or prints, with more than often neutral colors, but always trying to include an indication of my heritage, which more than often is my virgen chain. I am also a big fan of layering.
Where do you find style inspiration?
I find inspiration in Chicano artists and musicians, some that come to mind right now are Kap G, Prayers, Speak, not in an attempt to explicitly duplicate what they wear, but in embodying how they communicate an individual representation of the intersection of their respective Mexican-American identities.

Describe your look:
I am wearing a leotard gifted by another student. I love to wear leotards over leggings for comfy class fits. Rainbow color is power. It helps me concentrate.
Where do you find style inspiration?
I am inspired by flow, how things look in a breeze. Color is everything. It attracts, it inspires. It channels intention.

Describe your look:
My style is mostly casual and spontaneous, mixing and matching accessories, hairstyles, and keeping my make up neutral.
Where do you find style inspiration?
The YouTuber, Adelaine Moran. She take different colors, mixes them, and makes it hip. She does hair and makeup and I always look for her for tips.

Judith Marquez, 21 years-old, University of Texas at San Antonio
Describe your look:
I am laid back and not super girlie. I am kind of tomboyish because I grew up around mostly boys. I like to be comfortable and cute. I don’t like to look all tirada. I love to wear overalls and I splurge on my makeup a lot! I never really thought of describing my look and to be honest, it is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Where do you find style inspiration?
My inspiration I guess comes from everywhere. Growing up I was a huge fan of Rock en Español so a lot of the stuff I wear was partly influence by people such as Alejandra Guzman. The overalls were comfortable but still made me feel like cute. After several different outfits, that one was the one that felt the most me.

Nelly Meza, 19 years-old, Hunter College, New York, NY
Describe your look:
I don’t have a specific description for my style. It’s based on whatever I might be feeling that day. It’s like my music choice that day, am I feeling good or another way?
Where do you find style inspiration?
Rihanna, maybe, she always mixing it up and that’s inspiring to see.
