Much like Latine culture, the music around us is constantly evolving. So, Remezcla is teaming up with Pandora to create Sonic Bloom, a custom station featuring music from a new generation of innovative singers and songwriters across all genres, from those who’ve mastered the art of crafting homemade beats on their laptops, to those making their way to the big stage.
We’re spotlighting familiar names and new favorites alike: Coachella 2022 performers such as Omar Apollo and Natanael Cano, dreamy post-punk ensembles like Petite Amie and Nicolás y Los Fumadores, queer Colombian genre-defiers like Mabiland, regional barrier-breakers like Ivonne Galaz, and artists like Victor Internet and BRATTY, who are ushering in a new wave of Latine-fronted bedroom pop.
From the psychedelic-drenched shoegaze of Bolivia’s Chicas Delfín, to the alternative, slow perreo-style of San Juan native, RaiNao, Sonic Bloom spans across Latin America’s broad and diverse soundscapes to bring you the best of the best on the rise.
Flores – “Mayahuel”
If you haven’t heard the incisive songwriting of El Paso soul-songstress Flores, “Mayahuel” is the perfect introduction to her music. The R&B singer pays homage to Aztec female deities in the blistering and empowered single accompanied by a stunning visual dedicated to the borderlands.
Girl Ultra – “Punk”
Mexico City indie chanteuse Mariana de Miguel has been cranking out pop-leaning R&B bangers under the moniker Girl Ultra for years. But on “Punk,” she charges ahead at full-speed to deliver a mosh-worthy collaboration with rocker Santiago Casillas of Little Jesus.
DannyLux – “Infeliz”
California native DannyLux reimagines the traditional sierreño torch song by adding his signature 70s rock-inspired touches on “Infeliz.” Earlier this year, the viral TikTok musician revealed that he landed a deal with Warner Music Latina, cementing his status as a corrido artist to keep a close eye on.
Jadsa – “Run, Baby”
Bahian powerhouse Jadsa captivates listeners on the ever-stirring and avant-garde “Run, Baby.” The track, set to a hypnotic and near-math rock acoustic arrangement, is one of the many highlights from her 2021 record, Olho de Vidro.
Los Aptos – “Canción Para Ti”
Sierreño newcomers like Los Aptos have only been making music for about three years, but they’re at the forefront of a new Gen Z-led chapter in the corrido and regional movement. The stripped down “Cancion Para Ti” displays their softer, indie rock side and is a nod to their earlier days of uploading acoustic covers on YouTube.
Martox – “No Es Normal”
Dominican singer and producer duo Miguel Martinez and Eduardo Baldera (aka Martox) ensure that the beat just never stops. The two draw inspiration from disco grooves and rhapsodic R&B alike, like in “No Es Normal,” off of last year’s Se Siente Diferente EP.
Mabiland – “NIÑXS ROTXS”
Quibdó-born singer, songwriter and rapper Mabiland is an absolute breath of fresh air coming out of the male-dominated music scene in Colombia. On her second album, NIÑXS ROTXS, the queer Black wunderkind blends smoky, earthy jazz vocals into everything from funk-heavy, neo-soul jams to heavy-hitting trap and booming Afropop.
