It’s not even Thanksgiving yet, and Star Wars fans already have something to be thankful for. During an exclusive interview with ColliderAndor creator Tony Gilroy revealed that the second season of the Disney+ series would start production “the Monday before Thanksgiving,” which lands on November 21, 2022.

Although the exact production date was news to fans, there were already known details on Andor. The two-season prequel series leads up to the events of 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which first introduced audiences to Diego Luna’s title character Cassian Andor, a spy and intelligence officer working for the Alliance.

This past summer, during the Television Critics Association’s annual summer press tour, Gilroy said plans for the second season included breaking it into “four blocks of three [episodes]” with “each block” representing “another year closer.”

This breakdown, of course, is different from Season 1, which debuted the series with three episodes on September 21 and has released one weekly since then. Season 1 has three of its 12 episodes left to air – November 9, 16, and 23.

“We really get to take the formative forging of Cassian Andor in the first 12 episodes, and then we get to take that organism that we’ve built up and run it through the next four years in a really exciting narrative fashion,” said Gilroy. He also added that the series finale (episode 24) would “walk the audience directly into the first scenes of Rogue One.”

Another revelation from Gilroy about Season 2 is that Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios will direct at least one episode. Ruizpalacios wrote and directed the 2014 comedy-drama Gueros starring Tenoch Huerta (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever).
