Anya Taylor-Joy Brings Home Critics’ Choice Awards Win for ‘The Queen’s Gambit’

Another Monday morning, another celebratory win for actress Anya Taylor-Joy.

The Latina actress took home the Critics’ Choice for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film for The Queen’s Gambit on Sunday night’s hybrid in-person and virtual ceremony. The series would also take home the Critics’ Choice for Best Limited Series. This is the second such award (Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture for TV) for the Miami-born actress in a week. Taylor-Joy took home the Golden Globe for her role as Beth Harmon.

The Queen’s Gambit is the seven episode mini-series smash hit from Netflix. The series broke record after record this year and helped the streaming giant garner over 72 nominations total (both in film and tv). For her Critics Choice appearance, Anya Taylor-Joy wore a jewel-toned cranberry gown by Dior, the same company that styled the actress for the Golden Globes.

In an after show press conference via Zoom, the actress fueled the “second season” fire. “It is obviously incredibly flattering that people want to spend more time with characters that we care so much about and that we poured so much love into,” she said, “but we did intend it to be a limited series, so we were all quite surprised when people started asking for season 2. That being said, never say never.”
