With Marvel all set to debut the first installment of Avengers: Infinity Wars next year it’s time to start looking ahead at the new crop of superheroes. Starting in 2018 audiences will be introduced to a new gang of heroes as part of the feature film Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors. Originally announced by Buzzfeed, Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors will launch with “six four-minute digital shorts” as a means of getting audiences acclimated with the new crop of heroes that will include several diverse characters.
Alongside actresses Kathreen Khavari and Jane the Virgin’s Tyler Posey, it’s been revealed that Cierra Ramirez, star of Freeform’s The Fosters is joining the series. Ramirez, of Colombian and Mexican heritage, will voice Miss America, also known as America Chavez. In a post on her Twitter Ramirez said she is “honored” to be the voice of Miss America.
America Chavez made her debut as a Marvel character in 2011. In March of this year, Chavez received her own solo comic book series written by Queer Latinx novelist Gabby Rivera. Chavez is the first LGBT character in the Marvel canon.
Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors also includes the voices of Chloe Bennett, Ming-Na, and Booboo Stewart. There is no set release date but the first of the digital shorts is anticipated “later in 2018.”
