In celebration of a more inclusive entertainment industry, the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is honoring five individuals for their contributions to Hollywood.

On September 9, 2022, the NHMC will present an Impact Award during its 36th awards gala to actors Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead), Francia Raísa (Grown-ish), George Lopez (Lopez vs. Lopez) and Mayan Lopez (Lopez vs. Lopez) and producer Yvett Merino (Encanto).

Hosted by Jessica Marie Garcia (On My Block), the NHMC gala will return as an in-person event at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro is scheduled to make a special appearance during the evening.

“This year’s honorees have helped push the industry forward and have been instrumental in the movement for an increased and accurate representation of Latinos in Hollywood from the very start of their careers,” Brenda Victoria Castillo, NHMC President and CEO, said in a statement. “NHMC is thrilled to be returning to an in-person celebration after a year, and what better way to make our return than by honoring some of Hollywood’s most illustrious movers and shakers.”

Domingo was last seen on the big screen in the 2021 horror film Candyman. At the time, he told Remezcla that he wasn’t interested in playing cliché characters written to be “in service to the Caucasian lead.”

“I want complex stories about our experiences,” Domingo said. “I paint outside of the lines with my work.”

Domingo was recently nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Euphoria. He’ll been seen next in a musical adaptation of The Color Purple in 2023 and in Rustin about gay civil rights icon Bayard Rustin.

Raísa was recently seen in the debut season of How I Met Your Father, which was renewed earlier this year for a second season. Father and daughter duo George and Mayan Lopez will star together in the sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez this November. Earlier this year, Merino won an Oscar for the animated feature Encanto.
