While actor Diego Luna has always been a star since his breakout role in 2001’s Y Tu Mamá Tambien, mainstream audiences quickly jumped on the bandwagon when he was cast in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016 as Cassian Andor, a Rebel captain and intelligence officer.

While Cassian’s fate is sealed by the Death Star, Luna’s character is making his way back to the small screen in 2022 with Star Wars: Andor. The upcoming, 12-episode prequel series for Disney+ was announced at Disney’s Investor Day along with more than 100 new titles under the Disney brand. Lucasfilms president and producer Kathleen Kennedy announced the series is currently in production.

Rogue One in many ways is a film that connected new audiences with the oldest fans,” Luna says in a video during the Star Wars: Andor presentation. “It was a bittersweet feeling…knowing that it was just one film. But then magic happens, right?”

During the video presentation, Luna shows off the sound stages where Star Wars: Andor is currently being shot and reveals some footage of stunt actors training and others trying on different costumes. Luna says he’s very excited to continue to explore his character in this new Star Wars series.

“We’re doing everything to make sure we’re doing the best show,” he says. “There’s tons of possibilities to explore. It is the building of a revolution.”

Along with The Mandalorian and the upcoming series Star Wars: Ahsoka, which will feature the live-action character Ahsoka Tano played by Rosario Dawson in The Mandalorian, Star Wars: Andor will be the third Latinx-led Star Wars property in the galaxy so far.

May la fuerza be with you, Star Wars fans.
