Colombian-American actor John Leguizamo has been vocal about the need to “support all things Latin,” and after making strides on that front via acting and creating a series of successful one-man shows, he’s working on his hardest challenge yet: entertain and educate people, and you can be a part of it.
Director Ben DeJesus is currently crowdfunding on IndieGoGo to finish his documentary about Leguizamo as the actor prepares to debut his latest one-man show, Latin History for Morons, on Broadway. The documentary is a “fun, intriguing and poignant adventure” that will follows Leguizamo as he tries to “refine, reform, and bring the funny to audiences of all backgrounds, while being educational.”
The campaign is seeking $75,000 to cover the production crew, lighting, an opening title sequence and more. Perks for those who donate include shout-outs in the credits of the finished product to meeting Leguizamo himself after a performance of Latin History for Morons.
Leguizamo’s latest follows him on a journey through history as he tries to find a Latino hero for his teenage son to write about. He’ll look at over 3,000 years of history to show how Latinos have always been around, but are often written out of history books.
